About the Artists
Old World Art is an artistic collaboration between Gaelen Armstrong (left) and Martin Brodeur (right). We continually develop new techniques for working with copper to create unique textures and extraordinary patinas. We have a 20,000 sq. ft. studio in the Midwest, where we do every aspect of the artwork by hand and in-house. Each piece is a collaboration between the two of us, and our materials are chosen with the longevity of the work in mind.
Our goal is to make art that evokes balance and stillness in the viewer and in the artwork's environment. We're inspired by literature, natural history, architecture, and how the old world viewed art as an applied science - hence, Old World Art. Our creative process and constant innovation of new techniques is fueled by our daily practice of Transcendental Meditation.
We like art that gives a sense of wonder and elevation, and we think that everywhere the eye falls the soul should be inspired by beauty. We're especially attracted to art that requires technical proficiency, dedication, and precision to create.
"Don't try to be original. Be simple. Be good technically, and if there is something in you, it will come out." - Henri Matisse
